Comparative Anti-glycation and α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Studies of Metabolite, 9β,12β-Dihydroxy-9β,10α-pregna-4,6-diene-3,20-dione with Dydrogesterone.

Abstract

Dydrogesterone (1) and its microbial hydroxylated metabolite 9β,12β-dihydroxy- 9β,10α-pregna-4,6-diene-3,20-dione (2) were screened for their anti-glycation and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Dydrogesterone (1) showed potent α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50 = 95.6±1.3μM) when compared with 1-deoxynojirimycin used as standard (IC50 = 440.99±0.01 μM), while compound 2 was found to be weak inhibitor (IC50 = 824.3±6.1 μM). When evaluated for antiglycation activities, both compounds 1 and 2 were inactive.
