Abstract

In this paper, three issues that have an impact on the pregnant adolescent are discussed. These issues were education, identity development, and maternal support. Adolescence is defined as age 19 years and younger. Of particular importance to the pregnant adolescent becoming a mother is helping her complete high school, and helping her move through the identity development process. The third factor discussed is the pregnant adolescent's relationship with her mother/ maternal support. Helping the adolescent to transition into her role as mother is aided when material is presented in a format she can understand, and she has the support of her mother.
