Abstract

Security is an essential prerequisite for the success of every communication technology. Securing the voice communication is a biggest challenge for Mobile Voice over IP (MVoIP) over WiMAX as voice over wireless communications are by nature more vulnerable to varied attacks. A care has to be taken that packet does not eavesdropped or intercepted. In WiMAX, security is implemented in the security sub-layer which is above the Physical Layer (PHY). PHY layer is unsecured and open to the attacks targeting at the inherent vulnerability of wireless link. Due to this insecure layer, MVoIP services are impinged as well as quality and robustness of communication is tainted. The main aim of this paper is to discuss the security threats of MVoIP in WiMAX networks specifically at physical layer.
