- Abstract
The optimum conditions for the extraction of total triterpenoids from submergedly cultured Antrodia camphorata were determined by using response surface methodology (RSM). A three-level Box-Behnken factorial design was used to investigate the effects of three independent variables, namely solvent composition, extraction temperature and liquid-solid ratio on the response, the yield of total triterpenoids. The independent variables were coded at three levels and their actual values were selected on the basis of preliminary experimental results. Results showed that the generated regression models adequately explained the data variation and significantly represented the actual relationship between the independent variables and responses. A solvent composition of 86%, an extraction temperature of 75 °C and a liquid-solid ratio of 37 were found to be optimal for triterpenoid extraction from A. camphorata in submerged culture. By means of additional experiments, the adequacy of this model was conformed.
