Abstract

A RP-HPLC method for the determination of ursolic acid and oleanolic acid in Pyrola calliantha was established. RP-HPLC was carried out on a Kromasil C18 (4.6 mm x 250 ram, 5 µm) column. The mobile phase consisted of methanol-water (88:12 ) with the flow rate of 0.8 mL/min. The column remained at 25 °C and the detection wave length was at 210 nm. Within the range of 0.922-18.44 µg for ursolic acid and 0.506-10.12 µg for oleanolic acid, both ursolic acid and oleanolic acid had good linearity. The average recovery was 98.5% (RSD = 2.13% ,n = 6)for ursolic acid and 10l.3% (RSD = 1.69% ,n = 6) for oleanolic acid. RP-HPLC method is simple and credible. It can be an effective method for the quality control and evaluation of Pyrola calliantha.
