Title

THE ACTION OF SALICYLATE, DINITROPHENOL AND CARDIAC GLYCOSIDES ON THE ISOLATED TOAD HEART.

Authors

Nayler, Winifred G.

Abstract

The actions of sodium salicylate (5 mM final concentration) and of D.N.P. (1.09 x 10-5 final concentration) on the isolated perfused toad's heart have been studied. Both drugs caused marked stimulation of oxidative metabolism. The inotropic action of the glycosides in the presence of these two metabolic inhibitors was studied. Pre-treatment of the hearts with D.N.P. or salicylate abolished the inotropic response.
