Abstract

To explore the application of tape stripping method in efficacy evaluation of skin repair cosmetics, 30 qualified subjects were selected and an acute skin barrier injury model was established by continuous adhering and tearing with tape. The improvement of four indicators were measured to evaluate the repair efficacy of cosmetics of different types, namely, the transepidermal water loss (TEWL), water content in stratum corneum (CAP), erythema index (EI) and the degree of skin redness a* before and after using the products were analyzed. The results showed that TEWL, CAP, EI and a * were all increased after modeling. After using the test products, the four indicators were all improved to a certain extent, indicative of significant difference from the blank control group. Therefore, based on this acute skin barrier injury model transepidermal water loss, water content in stratum corneum, erythema index and the degree of skin redness are effective to evaluate the repair efficacy of cosmetics.
