Abstract

This research aims to define the self-perception of physical fitness in adolescents in Granada, as well as its association with sex, course, qualification, practice of extracurricular PA and the sport practiced. For this, a descriptive, ex post facto and cross-sectional design is presented. The sample consisted of a total of 168 students, belonging to 3rd and 4th course of secondary education with a representation by sex of 40.5% (68) for boys and 59.5% (100) for girls. The Physical Fitness Self-Assessment Questionnaire (IFIS) (Ortega et al., 2011) is used as the main instrument, using the SPSS® 23.0 software for statistical analysis. As main results, it was observed that male students had a self-assessment of the general physical fitness and the highest speed. It was also revealed that the students of higher courses were perceived with greater strength and that those adolescents with higher grades had a greater selfassessment of flexibility and strength. Finally, students who were more active reflected a higher self-assessment in general physical fitness, endurance and speed; in the same way that occurred with those who practiced contact-sports with respect to nonpractitioners.
