Abstract

Jute fabric was dyed with Terminalia Arjuna bark extract making an attempt to decrease the dyeing load on environment. Natural dyes are not only sustainable but some of them also impart additional finishing properties like antioxidant, antibacterial and UV protective properties in fabric. In this study the dyeing conditions were optimized using response surface design by checking the effect of time, temperature and pH on K/S values. The fabric dyed with Terminalia Arjuna bark extract showed satisfactory dyeing results along with very good antibacterial as well as excellent UV protection property.
