Abstract

Background: The neuroblast is a primitive nerve cell which does not undergo further division as it is a postmitotic cell. After the migration phase, it develops into a neuron. Materials and Methods: Cell culture – SHSY5Y cells were cultured and maintained in a prescribed medium. Cell treatment – the cells were pretreated with different concentrations of kaempferol for 4 h and then incubated with MPP for 2 h. Results and Conclusion: The intracellular calcium was significantly decreased at different dose levels, respectively. Kaempferol exhibits the good neuroprotective effect against MPP -induced toxicity to SHSY5Y cells, but it expresses the significant decrease in MPP -induced calcium production. Kaempferol was found to be an effective neuroprotective agent.
