- Abstract
Now-a-days, infertility has become a common problem worldwide. However, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) has been considered as one of the main reasons behind it. Regardless of the cutting edge medicines, an efficient treatment strategy to control PCOS has not yet framed. In fact, the cases of PCOS have been increasing at an alarming rate in the last decade. Thus, alternative treatment is required at this point of time to tackle PCOS. As paradigm has been moved from currently available allopathic medicines towards plant based medications due to lesser side effect, Unani medicines appears to be a promising solution for PCOS. But, to build up an effective treatment strategy for any disease, it is obligatory to comprehend the etiology of the disease. The present review is an endeavor to discuss about every aspect of etiological factors associated with PCOS along with Unani viewpoint. The review began with the linkage of infertility with PCOS and different etiological factors responsible for triggering PCOS. Afterwards, Unani perspectives on PCOS have been discussed by using information retrieved from classical Unani literatures. Even though Unani medications have the immense potential to treat PCOS, most of the PCOS patients rely on modern medicines for their treatment. Only focusing on the adverse reaction issues of allopathic or modern medications will not be sufficient to promote Unani drugs. Some progressive changes are straightaway needed to really apply Unani medicines for the treatment of different diseases. Nonetheless, this review would deliver some preliminary information to the researcher who are really endeavoring hard to change Unani drugs into future PCOS associated infertility drugs.
