- Abstract
From the second half of the 20th century humankind has had to face serious sustainability challenges: the negative effects of the intensive economic, social and environmental processes all over the world have resulted in a slow revaluation of the role and impact of human activities in many fields and generated the idea of sustainability and sustainable development. Universities, like other institutions, market actors, governmental and non-governmental organizations all around the world - also should cope with the present challenges of sustainability. These economic, social and environmental issues and the potential answers for these challenges should be an integral part of the new sustainable management approach and quality assurance in higher education. This paper, on the basis of the OVHR-model, presents the sustainability challenges, potential answers and possible contributions of higher education towards the implementation of UN SDGs.
