Abstract

This article aims to review the codes of representation used by mobile dating users. This study focuses on knowing: 1st) which tools users adopt to get a good impression of other users and 2nd) which normative codes are imposed on its acceptance. From a sample of 400 mobile dating «Adopta un tío» users, the analysis covers the formal aspects of representation, outfit, context, attitude and body language; also the way users define themselves. Considering that the control of relationships in «Adopta un tío» relies on women, the results show that the activation of autorepresentations is clearly connected to traditional patterns of identity representation and binary gender relationships, while still belonging to the patriarchal heteronormativity.
