- Abstract
Hydatidosis is a ubiquitous parasitic disease, the infectious agent is Echinoccocus granulosus, which localises in liver, lung and other organs. It may be asymptomatic, but when other symptoms appear, they are usually correlated to mechanic compression generated by the growth of the cysts or by hypersensitivity reactions due to breaking. The immune reaction induced by hydatidosis is complex and different between inactive and active disease. We present the case of an 82 year old patient with pulmonary, hepatic and renal hydatidosis, with multiple surgeries which were performed 20 years ago and who received antihelmitic treatment up until a year prior to admission, with a relapse of the disease consisting of new pulmonary and subcutaneous cysts and smoldering IgA myeloma diagnosed according to the CRAB criteria. The association seems not to be random, keeping in mind that in active hydatidosis IL-6 rises, which on the other hand promotes the differentiation of lymphocytes B in plasmocites. To our knowledge this is the first ever case described in literature.
