Abstract

Dental caries is a problem of the whole world. Now it is well stabilized that certain bacteria specially streptococcus mutans is the cause behind it. These bacteria strongly adhere to tooth surface and produce lactic acid after fermentation of sucrose and various carbohydrates, this lactic acid is responsible for dental caries. Many experiments have been made to remove streptococcus from oral cavity like antibiotic, oral drugs some are beneficial but having side effects after long term use, such as vomiting, diarrhea, resistance, teeth staining etc. That's why search ended at tea which is anti-streptococcal and having no side effect. In this study, we proved that both green tea and black tea have anti-streptococcal effect but green tea having this effect much more even in very low concentration, (less than 2 %).
