- Abstract
Purpose: To determine 6-month results after a single application of dexamethasone intravitreal implant (IVD) used in macular edema (ME) following branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Materials and Methods: The findings of 20 eyes of 20 patients diagnosed ME following BRVO were evaluated retrospectively. Patients was examined in 1, 7, 30, 90 and 180 days after injection. The best visual acuity of patients were measured by Snellen chart at each visit, and the results were converted to ETDRS letters scoring. Results: Increase in visual acuity was 1.7±1.1, 3.2±2.3, 8.9±2.4, 10.2±3.6, 8.1±3.2, 4.2±2.3 letters in day 1, 7, 30, 60, 90 and 180 respectively. The maximum response of the patients visual acuity was observed in the second month and increase in visual acuity began to decline from the third month. The reduction in macular thickness in patients was -10±5.8, -91±11.8, -162±10.4, -225±8.8, -190±7.8, -150±7.6 in day 1, 7, 30, 60, 90 and 180 respectively. Macular thickness showed an increase trend after 3 months. Conclusion: Clinically significant improvement in visual acuity and macular thickness reduction is provided with single application of IVD. This positive effect reaches the maximum level in 3 months and start to decrease by 6 months.
