- Abstract
The article reports that according to researchers at the King's Fund, rate of emergency bed use by patients aged over 65 in the highest-use primary care trusts (PCTs) is four times greater than that in the lowest-use PCTs. Also reported is two million unplanned admissions of people aged over 65 each year. It discusses the strategies to be implemented to provide a clinically and financially sustainable model of care and minimise exposure to psychological and clinical risk.
