Abstract

There are buildings where the thermal load related to humidity generation (latent load) is very high, in these cases it is needed to consume energy to remove moisture from the air to achieve and maintain confort conditions. The most extended method to reduce humidity content are based on cooling coils, this system reduces the amount of water in the air stream through the condensation of water on the coil surface. Another approach is based on desiccant materials, it aims at improving the process efficiency through the sequestration of water on this material surface, it is caused by the adsortion capacity of desiccant materials. As it is surface phenomenom, as higher is the contact surface between air stream and desiccant, as much water will be removed. Solid desiccant have been implemented with commercial solutions as desiccant wheels, it builds the desiccant material on a support substrate, but the use of desiccant liquids is not extended but at lab scale. Some of the reasons are related to the reduced contact surface between liquid and air. The evaluated approaches have focused on the application of liquid desiccant film or spray to increase the contact surface. This paper shows the assessment of an innovative approach based on the genearation of air bubbles into a desiccant liquid bath, this approach aims at improving mass transfer rate.
