Abstract
The article reports on the 20-year effort for primary health care (PHC) in South Africa. Topics discussed include the development of health policy in South Africa, the HIV/AIDS epidemic among pregnant women, the greatest need of PHC for tuberculosis (TB) and HIV, and the importance of PHC for greater efficiency in health management in South Africa.
