Title

Global cancer statistics: A healthy population relies on population health.

Abstract

The article provides an update on global cancer statistics, revealing that 20 million people will receive a new cancer diagnosis and nearly 10 million will die from cancer. The data is derived from estimates provided by the Global Cancer Observatory, but the accuracy of these figures is limited by the lack of high-quality, country-specific cancer registries, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries. The article also highlights disparities in access to prevention and screening methods, such as smoking cessation programs and mammographic screening, and the limited availability of modern cancer treatments in low-income countries. The authors emphasize the importance of coordinated data collection and global efforts to achieve equity in cancer screening, treatment, and post-cancer care.
