Abstract

The aim of this review was to identify criteria and diagnoses for static balance analysis. The search was conducted through the following database: Pubmed/MEDLINE, Scopus, LILACS, SPORTDiscus and Embase. The PRISMA-2020 checklist was applied as well as Cochrane Handbook and Downs and Black scale for both experimental and observational studies, respectively. 32 studies were assessed regarding population, methodological data, equipment type, and testing procedure. 81% employed a quantitative approach; only 9% evaluated physical activity levels and fatigue, while 6% measured foot size. There is a tendency to measure balance with eyes open and closed in bipedal support (66% and 59%, respectively), utilizing a single attempt (44%) and intervals between 21 and 30 seconds (43%). Flexibility in measurement standards may lead to contradictory results. Establishing more robust procedures considering influencing variables such as gender, fatigue, physical activity level, and foot characteristics in analysis models, along with procedures accounting for foot positioning definition, number of attempts, and more reliable time intervals, particularly in clinical applications, may enhance result reliability and precision
