- Title
Annotation: Public Health Methods--Attributable Risk as a Link Between Causality and Public Health Action.
- Authors
Northridge, Mary E.
- Abstract
The article presents an annotation concerning public health methods. The annotation intends to illustrate the uses of the population attributable risk percentage (PAR%) in judging priorities for public health action. It stresses that the PAR% can be calculated if the rate ratio and proportion exposed are known. The four different scenarios discussed include the high rate ratio and high prevalence of exposure, high rate ratio and low prevalence of exposure, low rate ratio and high prevalence of exposure and low rate ratio and low prevalence of exposure. Some of the public health issues cited include smoking, lung cancer, stratospheric ozone depletion and skin cancer.
