Abstract

While studies on masculinities in anthropology are on the rise, approaches to paternities continue to be scarce, and references to indigenous paternities are even scarcer. In this sense, this text is a first approach to the ways of parenting among the Mbya Guaraní. The analysis of parental care cannot be separated from the masculinities of the group. Based on ethnographic field data collected in Misiones (Argentina), we seek to understand the specificities of parenting. We conclude that fatherhood is a personal gratification for Guaraní men, that the forms of fatherhood are multiple, but that the care they offer is not equal to that of mothers or other women.
