Abstract

Today, with digitalization, some transformations have occurred in the field of citizenship and digital citizenship has emerged. This situation has made it necessary to raise conscious digital citizens. This study aimed to determine the needs for digital citizenship courses at universities. The study was conducted using the case study method. 8 experts and 13 university students, determined by criterion sampling technique, participated in the study. Data were collected with semi-structured interview forms created by the researchers. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. According to the results of the research, there is a digital transformation all over the world and the form and needs of citizenship are changing accordingly. It can be stated that the education system has important duties in order to keep up with this change. In this context, a digital citizenship curriculum is needed both individually and socially in order to raise conscious digital societies and citizens.
