Abstract

To predict the mechanical sensitivity of modified double base propellants, the critical impact energy E and the critical friction load FS were obtained by using the BAM impact device and friction sensitivity meter. Based on the correlation between the oxygen balance index of the single-compound explosive and the impact sensitivity, the relationship between the oxygen balance index and the mechanical sensitivity of modified double base propellants was investigated. The oxygen balance index, N—NO2, O—NO2, —COOR and benzene ring were selected as the molecular structure descriptors, and perform multiple linear regression to establish a mechanical sensitivity prediction model and calculate the E and FS of modified double base propellants. The randomly selected test samples were examined to test the model. The results show that the oxygen balance index OB100 exhibits a good linear relationship with both E and FS, which can be used to judge the mechanical sensitivity of the modified double base propellants. The E and FS prediction models based on molecular structure descriptors have high correlation coefficients of 0.963 and 0.983, respectively; Meanwhile, the root mean square error (RMSE) versus the mean absolute percent error (MAPE) of their test samples are 0.40J and 10.27% versus 8.33N and 10.83%, respectively.
