- Title
Deep Sequencing of Viroid-Derived Small RNAs from Grapevine Provides New Insights on the Role of RNA Silencing in Plant-Viroid Interaction.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which examines the role of viroid-derived 21-24 nt small RNAs (vd-sRNAs) in plant-viroid interaction. It states that viroids are circular, highly structured and non-protein-coding RNAs which assumes cellular enzymes, escapes host defense mechanisms and are able to replicate and move through infected plants. It mentions that sRNAs were sequenced by the high-throughput platform Solexa-Illumina for analyzing their role in plant-viroid interaction. It concludes that sRNAs can interact with host enzymes involved in the RNA-directed DNA methylation pathway which indicates a difficult interference with host gene expression.
