Abstract

SOD is one of the most important endogenous antioxidant enzymes in organisms, which plays an important role in protecting normal cells from oxidative damage caused by excessive ROS, and has the functional characteristics of strong specificity and high antioxidant efficiency. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of the production methods of SOD and the expansion of production scale, the research on its exogenous addition in biomedicine, food science and other fields has become more extensive, and it has gradually developed into a new type of feed additive, widely used in animal production. The appropriate addition of SOD in feed for poultry and livestock can effectively resist the oxidative stress of the body. SOD has the potential to replace antibiotics in animal production. The article reviews the classification, functional characteristics of SOD, and its current application in animal production, to provide reference for the extensive application of SOD in the livestock industry.
