- Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of a physical activity care pathway as a means of increasing physical activity participation in school-aged children via behavioural interviews, goal setting and signposting to physical activity opportunities. A mixed methods approach was used to assess the programme feasibility. Ninety-three children (males=56, females=43) aged 11.2 years (SD=.56) set physical activity goals at baseline and three were lost to follow-up representing a pathway completion rate of 97%. 70.7% (n=70) of participants achieved at least one goal in full and nearly 80% (n=79) had fully or partly achieved at least one goal. Qualitative themes included educational benefits, constraints to participation and options to harness pathway potential. Physical activity care pathways in school settings supported by school staff might provide a feasible means of recruiting children for a physical activity intervention but screening to ensure targeted recruitment and a restricted number of physical activity goals are recommended.
