- Abstract
The article discusses a study that used data from the Multi-City Study of Urban Inequality, which includes data on skin shade for each respondent, to examine issues of race and inequality in the U.S. The study looked at four issues including whether skin tone differences among blacks continue to be an issue after the civil rights movement. Another issue examined is whether there is any significance attached to cultural factors when explaining racial differences in economic performance. Also considered is whether there is any difference in the understanding of race in the U.S. as compared to Latin America. The final issue considered is whether skin shade is a factor for discrimination in labor markets.
