Title
A neutral theory of genome evolution and the frequency distribution of genes.
Abstract
The article discusses a neutral model of genome evolution which combines birth-death processes with gene uptake and loss at the genomic level. According to this model, gene frequency distributions possess a characteristic U-shape that drives genome and population structure. The model suggests that U-shaped gene frequency distributions provide less information concerning genes as expected.
