- Title
Taking the sting out of the anthrax vaccine.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the development of non-needle anthrax vaccines. The next generation vaccines are based on the use of recombinant protective antigen (rPA). The needle-free anthrax vaccine is either applied via a skin patch or is inhaled. Both the versions of the anthrax vaccine use rPA to stimulate a protective response but are in preliminary animal testing stages. In the inhaled-vaccine studies at B.D. Technologies, which are being conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease, the nasal cavity is targeted.
