- Title
Cardiac Impact of Long-Term Endurance Training: Negligible or Negative?
- Authors
Jost, C. H. Attenhofer; Jenni, R.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the cardiac effects of the long-term endurance training of endurance athletes. Cardiac changes happening in the heart of an athlete varies on the type of physical exercise they perform. According to recently published papers, former endurance athletes have larger left atrial dimension, develop ventricular hypertrophy and frequent ventricular premature contractions. The author adds that long-term endurance exercise can be performed in enough time without an obvious harm.
