- Title
Waiting rooms and the unconscious.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the role the theory of power, ceremonies and the unconsciousness mind in explaining the long waiting time of patients who want to see doctors. While the French historian Michel Foucault suggests the pervasive role of power in physician-patient relationship, the sociologist of institutions Erving Goffman sees this relationship within the framework of rules to instruct people how to behave. The long waiting time is also interpreted as a product of the unconscious mind.
