Title

Uncommon cold: could 4°C storage improve platelet function?

Authors

Kaufman, Richard M.

Abstract

Discusses the effect of different storage conditions on the platelet (PLT) functions. Demonstration that transfused human PLTs that have been stored at 4 degree Celsius are rapidly cleared from the circulation; Discussion on PLT variability and function; Statement that current apheresis PLTs have a much less significant storage lesion than products of years ago, owing to improvements in the materials and methods used in storage and collection.
