- Abstract
Two populations of Convolvulus arvensis (Bindweed) growing in vineyards receiving either mechanical or chemical weed control were characterized by the isoenzymes of alpha-esterases and malate dehydrogenases isolated by electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gel. The cultural technique affected the number, area occupied and dominance of individuals, as well as the mechanisms by which plants established and maintained space at the two sites. There was large clonal variability at the two sites but comparison of individuals between the two showed that there were clear similarities. The distribution of individuals over the sampled areas was very heterogeneous and the space they occupied was affected by the method of weed control.
