- Abstract
Despite the contention by the WHO that depression is a major cause of disability in the world, this illness receives little programmatic and research attention in developing countries. Low-income countries have extremely meagre resources for mental illness and little progress has been made in improving treatment modalities. Thus people know that millions of people suffer with depression and that there is a strong association with poverty and disability, but there was little research on what developing countries with meagre mental health resources and low awareness could do for depressed patients.
