Antibiotics for Treatment of Acute Respiratory Tract Infections: Decreasing Benefit, Increasing Risk, and the Irrelevance of Antimicrobial Resistance.
- Authors
Linder, Jeffrey A.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the result of the study concerning the failure of antibiotics in treating viral acute respiratory infections. He argues on the various health risks that were observed with the administration of antibiotics, such as diarrhea, Clostridium difficile infection, and skin irritation. In addition, the author asserts that the antibiotics failed to prevent the bacteria that cause the infection.
