Title

Bacterial physiology: Vibrio uptake apparatus.

Authors

Molloy, Sheilagh

Abstract

The article reports on the results of a study authored by Patrick Seitz and Melanie Blokesch which showed the detailed characterization of the DNA uptake apparatus in Vibrio cholerae. The authors identified 19 upregulated genes and delete genes individually from a wild-type strain of V. cholerae to determine their involvement in natural transformation. Findings reveal that uptake involves competence-associated type IV pilus(Tfp)-dependent translocation and Tfp-independent shuttling of DNA.
