Title

Antimicrobials: Z-ring Achilles' heel for MRSA.

Authors

van Ooij, Christiaan

Abstract

The article reports on the study on PCI90723 compound to defeat meticillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) through aiming at cell division protein FtsZ by Haydon and colleagues. Accordingly, PCI90723 is distinguish by screening more than 500 derivatives of 3-methoxybenzamide, an inhibitor of FtsZ. Moreover, sequence analysis shows bacteria unaffected by PC190723 replace valine 307 of FtsZ with big histidine or arginine residue. PC190723 also suppress cell division of S. aureus.
