Abstract
The article reflects on the result of the research on immunoglobulin E regulation on the functional heterogeneity of T cell clones which led to the T helper type 1-T helper type 2 (TH1-TH2) hypothesis. The hypothesis consisted of two different subsets of helper T cells distinguished by different sets of cytokines secreted after activation and consequently mediating different regulatory and effector functions.
