- Abstract
The article presents the author's views on gene and cell therapy to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). He reports that DMD is the most prevalent genetic disorder among newborn infants. He discusses the use of human artificial chromosomes to express dystrophin to induce pluripotent stem (iPS) cells which are derived from the fibroblasts of the DMD patient. He concludes this treatment is a unique therapeutic approach to treat patients with DMD.
