- Abstract
Reports on research to determine whether free genetic elements can be integrated into bacterial chromosomes in Archaea, the other domain of microorganisms. Statement that site-specific integration of different genetic elements into archaeal chromosomes is a general phenomenon requiring an archaeal integrase and produces a partitioned integrase gene in the chromosome; Conclusion that archaeal integrases are able to facilitate gene transfer between archaea, bacteria and eukaryotes.
