Abstract
The article discusses the risk factors associated with the development of surgical site infection (SSI) in an operative environment. Topics discussed include relationship of the number of bacteria with the probability of SSI, use of laminar air flow technique in operating rooms for elective arthroplasty, and role of ultraviolet lights for the prevention of infection after total joint arthroplasty.
