- Abstract
Meaninglessness is a significant human problem that has too often been overlooked by social scientists and mental health practitioners. This article will review the etiology and consequences of meaninglessness and focus on the therapeutic approaches of Viktor E. Frankl and J.F.T. Bugental. It is concluded that meaninglessness is a significant contemporary problem that needs to be addresses by counselors. The purpose of this article is to (a) indicate that meaninglessness is a significant human dilemma that is prevalent in society, (b) delineate the etiology and consequences of this dilemma, (e) review therapeutic approaches used in treating persons experiencing the feelings of meaninglessness, and (d) emphasize to counselors the importance of addressing this contemporary human dilemma.
