- Title
VERBAL FLUENCY: NORMATIVE DATA.
- Authors
Cauthenk, Nelson R.
- Abstract
This article presents information on test related to verbal fluency. Neuropsychological tests sensitive to frontal lobe dysfunction are not as common as tests sensitive to dysfunction in other areas of the brain. There have been several reports that verbal fluency assessed by the number of words beginning with the same letter, given in a fixed time period, was sensitive to left frontal lobe dysfunction. IQ and task difficulty, the number of associates given to a letter, should be taken into consideration when verbal fluency is evaluated. In light of its sensitivity to frontal dysfunction, a verbal fluency task with varying levels of difficulty was included in a larger program of gathering normative data for age and IQ levels on neuropsychological tests.
