- Abstract
The article presents a medical study that examines the connection between education with coronary artery calcium (CAC) and cardiovascular risk factors in young adulthood and early middle age. CAC is an indicator of subclinical atherosclerosis. The study concluded that education is inversely associated with the prevalence of CAC. The study was a population-based observational study that recruited 2,913 people from 4 U.S. metropolitan areas. Education was classified into 5 groups, including less than high school, high school graduate, some college, college graduate, and more than college. The presence of CAC was measured two times by computed tomography.
