- Abstract
The article offers the author's insights concerning the representation of old man in the opening lines of the poem "Memory of My Father," by Patrick Kavanagh. The author states his allusion in the lines due to the absence of older man who reminds him of his father during his two decades of geriatrician practice. He says that the gerontological principle concerning the association of interindividual variability and aging explains his belief that not a single older man resembles another. He adds that older people's iconoclastic temperament of older people provides an understanding that fears of falling may serve as critical factor to avoid falling.
