- Abstract
The article offers information about kidney stones on topics including its diagnosis, risk factors, and treatment. Kidney stones are formed when there is an imbalance between the concentration of urine dissolved substances, which include calcium, oxalate and uric acid, and the chemicals in the urine that usually keep the substances dissolved. Often, stones in the urinary tract (urolithiasis) are small enough to pass through the urinary system without causing any symptoms but, bigger stones can be present anywhere in the ureters which can block the flow of urine and cause severe pain.
