- Abstract
The article discusses studies on the increasing number of women who are choosing careers in surgery in the U.S. and the challenges facing them. An analysis made by Elisabeth C. Davis of the American College of Surgeons and her colleagues revealed that general surgery programs are successful at attracting women. Another study by Omaida C. Velazquez from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and her colleagues, looked at the social and institutional obstacles to career advancement for women surgeons.
