- Abstract
The article discusses a study of trends in cardiovascular health metrics and the associations of which with all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality risk among U.S. adults. The study focused on 44,959 adults and used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1988-1994, 1999-2004 and 2005-2010 as well as the NHANES III Linked Mortality File. All 7 cardiovascular health metrics were met by only a few adults. All-cause, CVD and ischemic heart disease (IHD) deaths occurred in 2673, 1085 and 576 NHANES III participants, respectively. The researchers conclude that there is an association between meeting more cardiovascular health metrics and a lower risk of total and CVD mortality.
